Assistant Professor (open rank)
Stony Brook University’s Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position in organic chemistry starting Fall 2010. Appointment at the assistant professor level is expected, but other levels may be considered. Stony Brook’s proximity and unique access to facilities at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Stony Brook University Medical School make this an ideal opportunity for interdisciplinary research, for example in medical imaging. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field, as well as postdoctoral experience. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in innovative research and have a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Solid State Chemistry or Electrochemistry with Solid State NMR.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in a related field or foreign equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related field. Background in ultrafiltration/nanofiltration/reverse osmosis.
Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Chemistry. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
- Assist in the synthesis of polymers, using (interfacial polymerization, UV cross-linking).
- Assist in the characterization of nanoparticles and nanocomposites.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending scientific conferences and meetings.
Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Some travel may be required.
