By Car

From the west, take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan, the Throgs Neck Bridge or the Whitestone Bridge in Queens to exit 62. Follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for nine miles. The main entrance to the university is on your left and is marked: "Stony Brook - Main Campus - West Campus"

By Ferry

Two car ferries connect the north shore of Long Island to Connecticut. The Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson, NY ferry and the New London, CT to Orient Point, NY ferry. Take Route 25A West to Nicolls Road and go south for one-half mile on Nicolls Road. The main entrance to the campus is on the right hand side.

By Air

Stony Brook is ten miles north of Long Island MacArthur Airport and 50 miles east of Kennedy International and LaGuardia Airports.

Bus Service

Long Island has limited but ever expanding bus service. Suffolk County Transit offers bus service between Stony Brook and a variety of places.

By Rail

Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. Some trains require changing at Jamaica Station and some at Huntington Station. The train station is at the border of the campus and bus service to the central campus is provided. The Chemistry Department is visible from the station and is a short walk away.
